Meet Alexis Randis.
This year, Food Services Coordinator Wendy Conrad was asked to mentor a local Girl Scout in pursuit of her Gold Level Award. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this, it is the highest level award a Girl Scout can achieve; much like an Eagle Scout award in Boy Scouts. It takes years of dedication and community service and is not easy to get.
Alexis saw a need for young people to learn basic cooking skills, as she recognized the lack of home cooked meals within her own peer group, leading to poor nutrition and eating habits. She wanted to make a difference.
Beginning in December, a monthly cooking class took place at FEN, attended by neighborhood and staff children, and was a huge success.
Alexis also created a Cook Book to share with the community.
